Names to discover
Among the winners, Scotland’s Aaron Sarwar took the men’s 50 kg title. Argentina’s Edgardo Nicolas Peralta won gold at 60 kg, while England’s Yashua Flemming defeated Spain’s Pablo Souto Macias in the 65 kg final by a 4:1 decision.
In the women’s competition, Brazil’s Elissandra Santos won at 48 kg and the USA’s Lauryn Elmore at 65 kg. World Boxing recorded 80 medallists across the championships.
A step between youth and elite competition
Held from 16 to 27 October at the Mediterranean Sports Center, this was the second edition of the World Boxing U19 Championships, following the inaugural event in Colorado in 2024. The federation describes it as a pathway towards international senior competition.
These are U19 world titles. They are neither professional belts nor a guarantee of Olympic selection. They do, however, provide an early reference point for following these athletes’ development.
Why we follow this side of boxing too
Our view: a boxing story begins long before the major fight nights. Following emerging athletes means taking an interest in their training and progress without prematurely declaring them tomorrow’s champions. Budva’s results give us names to remember; their next chapter is still to be written.
